We joined the church!

Yesterday we went up and joined our church!  We have been wanting to for a little while now but I was having a hard time because I feel bad about not living closer and being able to do more things for/with the church.  We live an hour away from our church so it is hard to go during the week.  Our church is the First Baptist Church of Garber.

I am so thankful though that we found this church and our wonderful pastor!  We have known Brother Tom for almost 14 years and once we found out that he was a pastor we started going to that church.  I love it!  It is smaller church like I grew up in and everyone is so sweet!  It just felt like home after the first time!  That is always great to find a church like that where you are excited and happy to be going!

I grew up Presbyterian and when I was a baby I was Christened.  We always went to church and I really liked it.  When I was a teenager I was like a lot of other teenagers and rebelled, didn't really want to go, I still did FCA at school and always did See You at the Pole.  I had a friend that went to the baptist church and she always invited me to go to church camp with her.  We went to one in Boiling Springs a few times and then we went to Falls Creek.  I really loved Falls Creek and loved the way it was there, everyone so loving and praising our Lord!  How could you not get something out of it!?!  Plus you got to make so many new friends!

I was saved at Falls Creek when I was about 15 years old.  It was such a wonderful feeling and I was so happy!  When we got back I shared with our Presbyterian church about the trip and decided to get baptized.  The way our church did it was by pouring water over your head.  So for 20 years I always thought I was baptized.  Once we started talking to Brother Tom and he came to visit and asked us if we do believe that Jesus Christ is God's Son and He was sent here to die on the cross so that we could be forgiven of our sins we both said yes.  We have both recently rededicated our lives too.  (This is my Story, if you are interested)  He asked if we have been baptized by submersion and Shane had when he was younger but I said no.  So since I wasn't baptized by submersion I will be doing that soon.  I always thought it would be really meaningful to do it that way anyways and was wondering about if I should be baptized again but since Tom put it that way then now I know and I will be!  That song Baptism by Kenney Chesney and Randy Travis is so meaningful to me and makes me cry every time I hear it.  I just love it!

So I will be letting you all know when we get it set up and how it goes!  Hoping it will go well.  lol  Tom is kinda short, I've always called him my little leprechaun, and I am 6' 1", so it should be interesting!

The little old church where I grew up going to.  Sadly it is isn't around anymore.

Hi Nicole,

I'm very happy for you, Shane and Maddie. I believe it's always good to be a part of a local church where you're welcomed and embraced as a family member.

Blessings and peace.

Thank you so much you two! I am sooo thankful we found this church. I loved it since we first started going. That's hard to find!! It's nice having it being smaller than some because to me it is much more personal that way. You can really get to know your brother's and sister's that way and have a great relationship with them too.

We found a great little church right down the street from us in a little town called Whittier, Iowa. We have maybe 80 people that come on a regular basis.. This summer we had baptism at a park near here. A little boy, age 4 said he wanted to be dunked..So his Dad and our Pastor dipped him into the river.. It was so sweet. Immersing at a baptism seems so spirit filled. Enjoy the Holy Spirit experience.. I know I did.

You know I was raised in the New Hopedale church and Dennis and I were both baptized the same way you were. A few years ago, we started attending the FBC in Ringwood and am happy to say, we did the same thing you are getting ready to do-- except we were blessed because 2 of our girls had accepted Christ and had not been baptized yet, so all 4 of us were able to share that experience. Awesome! I am sure you are very excited and I can't wait to hear more about your journey :) Jodi B.

How sweet for the little one Annie! I will enjoy it and know I will be crying tears of joy once I am done!

Jodi, where was that one? Is that the one that was in Meno? Margie and I were talking about it the other day and she said that is how it was at the Mennonite church in Meno where she used to go and she was baptized again once she joined the church there in Garber.
That is SO neat that all 4 of you got to be baptized together! We had a family like that and their other family was there to video it! Was a wonderful experience!!
Thanks again Jodi! Love ya!!

I agree, it is hard to do things during the week when the church is so far. It is hard to find a church home. I'm looking forward in reading all about your baptism.
God Bless,
Ginger

I'm glad you found a church where you felt at home and enjoyed worshipping there. I had never heard this song. It's beautiful and expresses baptism so perfectly. I know you are eager to experience being immersed in this way.
Blessings,
Charlotte

Thank you for stopping by Charlotte! It was and is so great that we have found that church. Even with the distance I really love it!! At least they know we love coming too since we make it every week and most weeks we make it to Sunday school too!
I'm glad I could share the song with you, it is a beautiful song, and yes I am looking forward to being immersed that way!
