Helping the lost

For a few weeks now the question of, "Are you going out and telling people about Jesus" has been brought up every where I look.  Several blogs have been posting about it and our Pastor has been preaching about it.  Our last few Sunday School classes have been talking about going out and telling the lost about Jesus.  Letting them know that the only way to get to Heaven is to believe in Jesus Christ!

"Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."~ John 14:6

I don't know why it is so hard for me to bring it up to people.  There is one, I have mentioned before, that says it isn't for him. How do I go about bringing it up in conversation without having him not want to come around anymore because I am just concerned for him and want him to be in Heaven with us?

They said in class if you saw someone getting ready to drive off a bridge that wasn't finished you would try to save them, try to stop them from dying.  Why can't I do that with my friends or others that are lost?  Why am I so worried about what others might think, that I might run them off.  I shouldn't care or worry about that because I am just doing what God wants us to do.  To tell the lost about Jesus and His wonderful Father!  To help them see that there is only one true way to happiness, to eternal life, to Heaven.

I am still trying to work on that, trying to find people that I do know that don't know Jesus.  To find the right opportunity to bring it up with my friend.  Right now I just continue to pray for him and hope that is helping.

Here are a few great verses I found.

"Be ready at all times to answer anyone who asks you to explain the hope you have in you, but do it with gentleness and respect." ~ 1 Peter 3:15b-16

Jesus said to His followers, "Go everywhere in the world, and tell the Good News to everyone."~ Mark 16:15

"Your lives are echoing the Master's Word...The news of your faith in God is out.  We don't even have to say anything anymore- you're the message!" ~ 1 Thessalonians 1:8

"Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony of God in them." ~ 1 John 5:10a

"Send us around the world with the news of Your saving power & Your eternal plan for all mankind."~ Psalm 67:2

"Live life with a due sense of responsibility, not as those who do not know the meaning of life but as those who do."~ Ephesians 5:15

"Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you." 2 Thessalonians 3:16

  1. You're right..you shouldn't worry about what others will thing...you will get there. I will pray for that, too! (Specifically.)

On Sunday, almost the opposite was preached on. There was a guest preacher...he was saying how he doesn't say he is Christian (like wearing a cross, etc)...people just KNOW. The Holy Ghost is all over him...that people just know. And that is a way to be, too. Because then those who need our sweet Jesus will be led to us through the Holy Ghost...and we can tell them about Jesus that way.

I think it is still important to witness, too. If you ask God for those opportunities, you will be given them. :) And it doesn't matter if the person listens to you or not...a seed will be planting - and THAT is what matters.

  2. Nicole - Thank you for tackling a tough subject. I also tend to be a little "shy" about speaking out. I'm just praying for God to bring me opportunities, and then asking for His courage to take advantage of them when they come. Be ready with an answer...yes! Live a life that is different...yes! And keep praying for the lost...ABSOLUTELY YES!!

I have someone very close to me who also says "religion" is not for him. So, the best I can do is ask God for wisdom and discernment. Lord, tell me when to be quiet and listen...tell me when to speak up. I frankly don't trust my judgment (or my nerve) on this issue, so I'm asking Him for guidance!!

Here's another good passage (I know it's a little out of context, but it speaks to me for this particular situation):

"...don't worry about how to respond or what to say. God will give you the right words at the right time. For it is not you who will be speaking - it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you." (Matthew 10:19-20)

GOD BLESS, Nicole - keep the faith!!!

  3. Oh Sharon! Thank you so much for that verse! I love it and it fits perfectly!!

I am right there with you on asking for His guidance because I am afraid of what I might say. If it will be something wrong that will push him totally away. I will continue to pray!

Thanks again and God bless you too!!

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. - Ephesians 4:29

Have a blessed day! =)
