Forgive and Forget

Forgive

People say that all the time but it is so hard for us as humans to do.  How many times have we said that to people?  To someone that has hurt us over and over again but if we do forgive we don’t forget.  Why is that?  Why can’t we be like our Father and just forget?  When someone has hurt us again, we’ve given them so many chances that we just give up on them.

Matthew 18:21-22 (NIV)

The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant

21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”

22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.

Our Father is much better than that.  He not only forgives… no matter how many times we ask for it, even when it’s about the same thing, He forgives and forgets!  Never brings it up to us the next time we fail and come asking for forgiveness again.

Hebrews 8:12 (NIV)

For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."

I pray that God will help me to be able to forgive and forget!  To really and truly forget so that I won’t have it there, keeping score for the next time.  I am so thankful that our Father does that for us!

Lesson from my daughter

289318_10150365201345429_731165428_10412712_209327_o

I was walking Maddie to school on Monday morning and she asked me, “Momma, what are you afraid of?”  I said, “roaches”  She said, “what else?”  I said, ‘that I was afraid I wasn’t a good enough mommy or wife.’ She said, “But you are”  Then she asked, “What else?”
“That I’m not good enough for God”

Her answer… “Well, you’re not, but if you are sorry for the bad things you do, then you can pray and ask for forgiveness and then you won’t go to hell”

WHAT!?!  Oh my precious little daughter.  How my heart just leapt and was so filled with love and pride for her.  My little daughter is learning and listening to me and what they teach her in Sunday School.  She is now the one teaching me!
I am so proud of my little preschooler!  Such a smart little girl!!

This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.  There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus ~Romans 3:22-25

Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.  Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him.  ~Romans 4:7-8

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.  And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. ~Romans 5:1-3

Can you tell where I have been reading lately?  Man, what she said went right along with it!!

I will Always Love You!!

Maddie was riding her little tricycle outside today and was just being so cute, I told her, "I love you!"  She just looked at me and said, "I don't love you" then I just told her, "That's alright I will always love you no matter what!"  I went on with how I love her even when we fight, when she does bad things, when she starts going to school, when she grows up and chooses not to come home that much, when she does her own thing trying to figure out who she is and what she wants, I will always love you!!  I will always be here with my arms wide open praying for you and waiting on you to come home!

You know, God feels the exact same way about all of us, all of His children.  We totally screw up, ignore Him, don't talk to Him like we should or listen to Him like we should but He is constantly there, waiting on us to figure it out and to come home to Him!!  What an amazing God!!  I just have to keep remembering that we are His children and He will love us no matter what we do and will always be there for us!

Not sure why it is so hard for me to think of it that way since any parent feels that way about their own child.  It is so funny how sometimes when I am trying to explain things to her or asking her why she just won't listen to me, it's like a voice on the inside saying SEE!?! or a small little laugh in my head.  It's so funny and so amazing that I am finally starting to listen and actually hearing Him now!!  There is no other feeling like it!  and yes sometimes I am very guilty of arguing with Him!  Somedays I understand and do what He is saying but there are still those days I am kind of saying, yeah yeah, whatever, and then doing my own thing but only to end up coming back, head down, asking for forgiveness, (which I wonder if He ever gets tired of), and saying I am so sorry I didn't listen and just do what He wanted me to in the first place!

This is a totally new relationship I am starting and I am still learning, in a way I'm kind of like a newborn..  Ok, that story is for another post.

When Jesus saw this, He was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Mark 10:14 Pin It
