You Want Me to what!?!

Do you know that your submission to your husband is to be in the SAME WAY that we submit to the authorities set up by men?

It is indeed for the Lord’s sake! He has a great purpose in this additional aspect of submission and there is tremendous benefit to US as we obey this portion of God’s word. We will also continue to discuss God’s value for us in suffering and we will learn how to do this WITHOUT FEAR!

Grab your Bible, coffee/hot tea/sweet tea, your notebook and highlighter and join Cherie and Rebecca as they continue a verse-by-verse discussion of 1 Peter. ♥

{Praise Him!}

dancing in field

For I cried out to Him for help, praising Him as I spoke.~ Psalm 66:17
You know, as silly as it sounds, when I prayed I used to always just pray for things, for what was bothering me at the time and ending it at that.  (ok, may not be silly to some) After I rededicated, and I found these wonderful books by Neta Jackson did I really understand what it meant to praise Him with prayer.

That sometimes you can pray without even asking for anything, you can pray and just praise our Father for who He is!!!  Once they started talking about that in her books, it just kinda clicked!  I am still not the best at it but the ladies over at The Imperfect Wives have also helped me with learning how to praise Him.

It is just wonderful to be able to pray and give thanks to the Lord for who He is and for what He does!!  He is the Almighty, the One that made this beautiful world, the One that made me who I am, the One that gave me my husband and my wonderful daughter!!  That is a big praise right there!!

Daddy we want to praise You today for all that You are and all that You do!  We want to praise You first of all for giving Your only Son to teach us Your ways, to die for us and set us free.
I want to thank You and praise You for letting me live in a country where I can praise You freely, where I can say Your name out loud without fear!  I want to thank You for this wonderful world You made, the beauty that You gave us as a reminder of Your great power!
I want to praise You for always being faithful, for never giving up on us.  For giving me my loving family, for not giving up on me and taking me back after all these years!  I want to praise You for bringing such wonderful brothers and sisters into my life!!
I want to praise You for Your awesome ways!  No matter what is going on, it is going on for a reason, even when I don’t understand it You have a bigger and better plan in store!  I want to praise You for showing me that!!
Thank You Daddy for all that You do and all that You are!!
In Your loving name,
Amen!

10 Things you will continually hear

... at the Imperfect Wives.

1. Husbands "always" need a safe place to land. We can't stress this enough. Learn to be this place for them. Give them a reason to want to turn around.

2. When you are wrong in the situation alwaysbe quick to admit it and ask for forgiveness.

3. Never underestimate the power you have in your prayers! You have entered a covenant with God in your marriage. He hears your prayers.

4. Someone once said, "Let consequences do their job." Both sides need to learn from mistakes. Though you may want to pull a "Madea" on your husband, let the Holy Spirit hit him on the head. He will always do a much better job chastising him than you will.

5. When in doubt, always turn to the Bible for answers. Our heart here at The Imperfect Wives is to always point you right back to Jesus in every circumstance.

6. DO NOT RUN! Don't run when things get tough. Instead, dig those cute feet of yours in even deeper, not giving satan a chance at your marriage.

7. Always, always, always guard your heart. The enemy is always looking for a weak spot to enter in.

8. Be willing to open your heart to others in the same situation you are in. God wants to use you right where you are and both marriages will be blessed for this.

9. Always keep the lines of communication open between you and husband.

10. Don't Give Up! The Holy Spirit is always at work in your prayers. Though your circumstances may indicate otherwise, you never know when God is about to turn your husband's heart around. Amen!
Doing these 10 things will cultivate the same beauty and fragrance in your marriage the pink roses represent!

We love you guys and are praying for each of your marriages,

Cherie

God is good

*I did not write this post today.  This post was written by Kim over at The Imperfect Wives.  For more posts by the IWC writing team head on over and check them out!!

God is so good.
God is so good.
God is so good,

He's so good to me.

This childhood song has run through my mind this week.

God spoke to me this week concerning His goodness.

The encouragement to reflect on His goodness didn't come to me from a situation where blessings of great things lead me to inevitably praise the Father as good.

Nor did it come from an exciting piece of news received.

It didn't come from a healing, a deliverance, a new birth, a sum of unexpected money, or an answer to prayer, per se.

No, in fact, the urging of the Spirit to reflect on His goodness came from something not too exciting or out of the ordinary.

It came from being in His Word.
From reflecting on who He Is.

And I think that was the point.

God wanted to let me know that He is good irregardless of my circumstances.

No matter what my emotions were telling me.
The creation sings of His goodness.

I have gotten to live in many beautiful places in my lifetime and experience some of the most beautiful country that the United States has to offer.

God, the Creator, made it all and He, Himself, called it good.

He also did something else. He made man (both male and female) in His image and it was very good. [See Genesis 1-2].

The creation story shows us a lot about the Creator.

It shows much of His character.

It shows that He is Good.

In the creation account in Genesis 2:20-22, God looked on Adam and said,

But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

God, in His goodness, saw that man needed a helper.

That's you ladies! That's me!

We were created as the suitable helper for our husbands.

Do you see yourselves that way?

Do you see yourself as having the Character of Christ?

When the Holy Spirit indwells each believer He brings with Him all the attributes of God the Father and Jesus the Son with Him.

You are Good. Created to be so.

In your marriage to be so.
For your husband. For you.

It is thrilling to look at ourselves the way that God does.

Yes, we are the Imperfect Wives, because after the first two chapters of Genesis there is the fall of mankind.

But the rest of history is about His Story. The Creator bringing about redemption to His creation.
He is the Author and Perfecter of our faith and He gives us His Perfect Spirit to help us live.

Yes, Imperfect Wives, He also give us His Goodness.

Glimpse it today; look in the mirror and see yourself the way that the One who is Good does.

Jesus paid a heavy price to redeem us back into a right relationship with God the Father.

And that ladies, is GOOD!

The book of James

015
The Imperfect Wives have been going over the book of James now for the past few weeks on their blog talk radio show. (the link will go to their archives)  It is an amazing book and very eye opening.
Not sure how I am going to do this post because there is just too many things in James that need to be read and learned and lived!  I will be going over this, basically posting the Word, for the next few days…
Here is the explanation of James from my Life Application Study bible… which by the way is a very great read!  Winking smile

Vital Statistics

Purpose:
To expose hypocritical practices and to teach right Christian behavior

Author:
James, Jesus’ brother, a leader in the Jerusalem church

Original Audience:
First-century Jewish Christians residing in Gentile communities outside Palestine

Date Written:
Probably A.D. 49, prior to the Jerusalem council held in A.D. 50

Setting:
this letter expresses James’ concern for persecuted Christians who were once part of the Jerusalem church.

Key Verse:
“But someone will say, ‘You have faith; I have deeds.’ show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do” (2:18)

again this is from my Life Application Bible…

With energetic style and crisp, well-chosen words, James confronts this conflict head-on.  It is not enough to talk the Christian faith, he says; we must live it.  “What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?” (2:14)  the proof of the reality of our faith is a change life.

Genuine faith will inevitably produce good deeds.  This is the central theme of James’ letter, around which he supplies practical advice on living the Christian life.
James begins his letter by outlining some general characteristics of the Christian life (1:1-27)  Next, he exhorts Christians to act justly in society (2:1-13).  He follows this practical advice with a theological discourse on the relationship between faith and action (2:14-26).  Then James shows the importance of controlling one’s speech (3:1-12).  In 3:13-18, James distinguishes two kinds of wisdom- earthly and heavenly.  Then he encourages his readers to turn from evil desires and obey God (4:1-12).  James reproves those who trust in their own plans and possessions (4:13-5:6).  Finally, he exhorts his readers to be patient with each other (5:7-11), to be straightforward in their promises (5:12), to pray for each other (5:13-18), and to help each other remain faithful to God (5:19,20)

This letter could be considered a how-to book on Christian living.  Confrontation, challenges, and a call to commitment await you in its pages.  read James and become a doer of the Word. (1:22-25)

1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.  To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations:

Greetings,
Trials and Temptations
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.  4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault and it will be given to him. 6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.  7 That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
9 The brother in humble circumstances ought to take pride in his high position. 10 But the one who is rich should take pride in his low position, because he will pass away like a wild flower.  11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant: its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed.  In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business.

I will continue with this tomorrow.  Here is the meaning of Perseverance.. I love #2.  Of course highlights are mine.. although in my bible it is all pretty much highlighted! and again, the stuff highlighted is what appeals to me.. so to someone else it might not mean anything.  The posts I do are not to preach but to share His word and what has spoken to me.  These posts are basically for me and my Father!  and of course whoever wants to join in...

Learning to be a {Good Wife}

I have been trying lately, after reading The Power of a Praying Wife and several other books, to be the wife my husband needs.  What I have learned though is that it’s not all about that.  Submitting to most, and used to be to me, is a bad word.  I also thought that all those verses were so awful, submitting in EVERYTHING!!  I would really get upset over that.  When he spoke hatefully to me, didn’t want to help out with certain things, all the excuses I gave to not submit.
After reading more I have learned that we are not just submitting to our husbands but we are submitting to our Lord!  That is the most important part!  Doesn’t He deserve that from us!?!  After all He has done for us?   Believe me,  I’m still not perfect and will never be, but I am slowly learning and I think as long as I keep learning and trying then that is all He wants!

“Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.  For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, His body, of which He is the Savior.  Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.”  Ephesians 5:22-24

I got another wonderful devotional from the ladies at Girlfriends in God and I really loved the list Sharon gave from her book.  Here it is…

Praying for our husbands

A dear friend sent this to some more ‘Imperfect Wives’ and I just had to share it.  Something I need to print and do everyday.  I do pray for my husband but it is nice to not always have the same prayer…

His HeadThat he will look to You as Lord of his life.                         (1 Corinthians 11:3)

His MindThat he will have the mind of Christ and think as the Holy Spirit would lead him and not the flesh. (1 Corinthians 2:16)

His EyesThat You will keep his eyes from temptation and that he will turn his eyes from sin. (Matthew 6:13, Mark 9:47)

His EarsThat he will hear Your still small voice instructing him.      (1 Kings 19:12, Psalm 32:8)

His MouthThat his words will be pleasing to You. (Proverbs 19:1)

His NeckThat he will humble himself before You and be strong, courageous, and careful to do everything written in Your Word so that he will be prosperous and successful.                               (James 4:10, Joshua 1:8-9)

His HeartThat he will love and trust You with his whole heart. (Deuteronomy 6:5, Proverbs 3:5)

His ArmsThat You will be his strength. (Psalm 73:26)

His HandsThat he will enjoy the work of his hands and see it as a gift from You. (Ecclesiastes 3:13, 5:19)

His FeetThat You will order his steps and that he will walk in Your truth. (Proverbs 4:25, Psalm 26:3)

Oh and guess what?  My friend Beverly, that sent me this, said she got it from Girlfriends in God!  Love them!
